Specialist Leader of Education - Lisa Palmer

I am currently the KS1 Manager and Literacy Lead at St Paul’s School in Chippenham. This is an SLT role and forms a key part of the School Improvement Plan in helping to drive the school forwards following an Ofsted inspection.

I have taught at St Paul’s since 2005 and originally joined the school in the role of EYFS/KS1 and Literacy Manager and as a member of the SLT. On my return from maternity leave in December 2012, I reduced my hours, and took on a Middle Management role as Reading Leader, to develop Phonics and Reading. This was a key role in line with the School Improvement Plan.

I have a real passion for raising standards in Literacy and ensuring that children leave Key Stage 1 as confident readers and writers so that they are ready for the demands of the curriculum in Key Stage 2. Effective leadership, along with sound teaching practice (and therefore the ability to coach others) is essential in order to bring about sustained improvement such as this. I believe that I am able to provide both elements.

My SLE specialisms are:

- Phonics

- English
